Blog Exercise #3 - Hex Editing

Hex Editing: Hex editing is a method you can use to glitch your work through playing around with the hexadecimals of a file. You can find a hex editor online or if you have visual studio you can open your file through their hex editor. At my last co-op term I used a hex editor to change a texture file for a 3d model. It can be very easy to destroy the file, especially if you mess with the header contents (usually the top couple of lines).

Process:
  1. Open image in a hex editor (I used hexed.it)
  2.  Skip the first couple of lines and slowly start to make changes to the hexadecimals
  3.  Note: This is trial and error and I found it harder than data-bending as you can easily corrupt a file
